Ons aanbod bestaat uit urban performing arts voor nieuwe generaties – Millennials en Gen ZY+. Urban is een omstreden woord. Voor ons is iets urban wanneer verschillende invloeden samen blenden in de jonge cultuur van Europese steden. Gekenmerkt door inclusiviteit en altijd in beweging. Dat gebeurde ook in Amsterdam, en daarmee ontstond ‘Damsco’. Het is niet Mokum – het traditionele, maar Damsco – de constante vernieuwing.

NOMAD

Caught between their cultural heritage and the challenges of embracing a new world, they face questions of identity, belonging and adaptation. Through their struggles, resilience and triumphs, the performance explores how this generation bridges cultural divides and searches for a common language in an ever-changing society. NOMAD invites us to reflect on the connections that unite us, regardless of where we come from.

MAN MAN MAN

MAN, MAN, MAN is a physical and thought-provoking performance about the transition from boyhood to manhood. Through powerful choreography, projections and voices, two dancers explore the pressures, expectations and contradictions surrounding masculinity. Balancing vulnerability and strength, brotherhood and competition, they question what it means to be a “real man” — and who gets to decide. The performance invites audiences into the conversation, asking more questions than it answers.

ONS MAM

Two mothers and two sons stand face to face. A shift takes place — imperceptible at first, now unmistakable. Until no one quite knows who is holding on and who is letting go.

Or do we ever truly let go? And how long can you hold someone before holding on begins to hurt?

In Ons Mam, two mothers and their sons are confronted with the passage of time. Through personal stories, moving texts and tender duets, the performance explores love, letting go, and what we pass on from one generation to the next.

HOUSE ON THE WIND

House on the Wind is a captivating coming-of-age drama with a historical and afrofuturistic twist. The play follows two brothers as they navigate the political tensions in the Caribbean, the technological race among superpowers, and their personal struggles. Their story unfolds against the backdrop of the Cold War and post-colonial movements, where power and ambition constantly collide.

SAT’EH

Sat’eh is the Arabic word for roof. In Arab cultures, life often unfolds on the roof: looking out at the world. For Ali Zanad, the roof symbolizes a sense of home. Iraq is a part of him, but so is the Netherlands. A research trip to Morocco, where he sought to experience the Arab culture he had long been away from, made him realize that he must search for that feeling within himself, no matter where he is. Ali translates this exploration into the dance performance Sat’eh.

DEN MI WESU

Den Mi Wesu – meaning “in my bones” in Papiamentu – is a theatrical deep dive into the origins of spiritual experience and how rhythmic expressions amplify it. It involves an excavation of instruments, voice, and movement.

As a part of the new generation of diaspora descendant, Michael seeks a connection with his ancestors. The bond is derived from rhythm and spirituality, which he wants to explore through the stories and sounds that shaped the island.

REFRACTION [breaking light]

Have you ever noticed that when you look through a glass of water, the objects behind it seem to change shape and position? This is refraction.

In this duet, Liam McCall and Oscar Starink, two B-boys from the Underdogz crew, investigate what else is visible beneath the surface of a B-boy’s image and how deep they can delve. They push themselves physically, embodying the B-boy mentality of hard work and competition while blending it with the fragility of brotherhood. They create beautiful, controlled images by manipulating two light sources, allowing poetry to emerge in the process.

It really hurts when your head hits te concrete

A man drags his companion around like a rag doll; a 70 kilo body tethered to him. Lost and looking for the way, he deploys the rag doll as a living Swiss army knife. Tap on his head and water comes out, climb on his shoulders to look around. But what if your companion no longer wants to play along? It really hurts when your head hits the concrete embodies in a humorous and poetic way how we all carry our history with us. In this physical performance you are immersed into an absurd world in which the internal struggle of a man becomes personified. Expect a deluge of images that reads like a poem and takes you to virtuosic acrobatic highlights.

Nobody’s SANCTUARY

Nobody enters his sanctuary, a digital space that he created in Virtual Reality. A world of his own that mimics the reality outside his mind, but has its own complexity and mysteries. It is a distillation of his own experiences, where he hopes to find what he is looking for. In our own cave of wonders, projections upon projections start shaping our life. Can his self-made world give him back more than what he already knows?

HISSY FIT

Gedreven door de rauwe energie van rapmuziek ervaren drie zwarte lichamen hun ‘hissy fit’; de gemoedstoestand die een emotionele uitbarsting tot gevolg heeft. Ze verschuilen zich achter maskers en raken in een roes die hen een beangstigende macht geeft. Ze zitten gevangen in hun eigen lichaam en zoeken gefrustreerd een weg naar buiten. Emoties komen tot ontploffing en opgelegde stigma’s lijken zich te bevestigen.

Christian Guerematchi takes us on an afrofuturistic journey to hidden cultural messages, inspired by the movement of non-aligned countries. For generations, cultural codes have been systematically suppressed and to counter this, a mysterious people has hidden coded information in capsules, scattered through time and space. NAM we perform a symbolic ritual to release the message again.

Mimeduo DeRonde/Deroo tonen de zoektocht en schoonheid van melancholie in deze prijswinnende, visueel treffende fysieke voorstelling. In de setting van een donker en koud winterlandschap neemt After The Echo je mee op een surreële trip vol explosies van kleur en warmte: een overdonderende pop ballade in een rode glitterjurk, een nachtelijke ontmoeting met een hert, twee verloren zielen in een storm die verlangen naar een Braziliaans strand.
